In Abhishek’s own words:
I feel like a “Nomad” as there are hardly any parts of the country that I have not travelled, some of it was thanks to my dad’s transferable banking job and the rest due to my job and passion.
I am Abhishek Bhatia proud Alumni of Sri Balaji Society 2000-2002 batch. The college days were one of the best days is a cliché but to tell you the truth it really imbibed the entrepreneur spirit in me. The fact that we were the second batch of the Institute helped us to build our own culture and ecosystem that gave me immense learning that I cherish to date and not to miss the amazing friends and faculty.
We were the batch that was placed post the 9/11 (2001) attack while there was obvious negative sentiment in the industry but that did not reflect a bit in our placement team and Bala Sir.
Well how would it? Because Bala Sir was the one who believed “Problems are Opportunities” and so I was fortunate to land with not 1 but 2 job offers. I chose to join Coffee Day, Bangalore as Sales Officer.
My first job itself gave me an opportunity to launch a brand in India “Coffee Day Take Away” coffee in a vending format. I was in a city I did not speak the local language and profile I was not aware of yet Bala Sir Mantra – ‘Problems are Opportunities’ helped me overcome that and in less than 2 years and I was the most successful sales officer in my team and the only “North Indian” to be conversing with my distributors in “Kannada”.
Post that I decided to move on to marketing and communications. This journey has given me an opportunity to work with the best of profiles in Ogilvy, Bates, Telenor & GroupM and best of brands like Unilever, Nokia, UNICEF, Google, etc.
My work has given me the recognition that few aspire as I was lucky to be part of projects like “Lifebuoy Swasthya Chetna”, “Google Internet Saathi”, “Nokia Net Ka Guru”, “IJal swasthya Chetna”
Today as “Head Business Planning & Market Growth” with Impact Communications (www.impactcomm.org largest standalone Indian agency). At Impact I am leading the agency towards next level of growth in the emerging markets. We are the most celebrated full service BTL agency specializing in Rural, Retail and Activation that is powered by the raw passion to create something new.
With 15 years of professional experience behind me and innumerable industry awards & recognitions the one thing that keeps me grounded is my family and the words of Bala Sir.
I would like to wish the current and future batches of Sri Balaji Society the very best. A word of advice to all the “Millennial” no matter how successful you are, no matter how big you become but still “Stay Hungry to learn and Stay Foolish to try new stuff/making mistakes”
